Apply Edge
An AI job-application platform, taken from idea to paying customers.
We built and run Apply Edge end to end — the AI tailoring pipeline, the ATS scoring engine, a Chrome extension that scores listings inline, an application tracker, and the billing behind a live subscription business.
The problem
Job seekers write one resume and send it everywhere. Applicant tracking systems reject most of them before a human reads a line, and nobody gets told why. The fix is obvious and tedious: tailor every application to every posting. Doing that by hand does not scale past a handful of applications a week.
How we built it
Score before you generate
The first build order was the ATS analysis, not the AI writer. Scoring a resume against a job description and naming the missing keywords is useful on its own, and it gave us a measurable target for the generation step to hit. Building the evaluator first meant the generator had something to be judged against from day one.
Tailoring that keeps the user's voice
A model rewriting a resume from scratch produces fluent text that no longer sounds like the person, which fails the moment they reach an interview. The pipeline is constrained to reframe and re-weight what the user actually wrote rather than invent new claims — an accuracy requirement, not a stylistic preference.
Meet users where the jobs are
The Chrome extension puts a match score on the listing itself, so the judgement happens where the decision happens instead of in a separate tab. One-click form pre-filling on the major boards removes the retyping that makes tailoring feel expensive.
Close the loop after sending
An application tracker and recruiter-reply signals turn the product from a one-shot generator into something with a reason to return. This is what moved it from a tool into a subscription.
Decisions worth defending
- Free tier deep enough to prove value
- The free tier includes real ATS scoring rather than a teaser, because the scoring is the part that demonstrates the problem is real. Users see their gap before being asked to pay to close it.
- Browser extension as a first-class surface
- Shipping and maintaining an extension alongside a web app is a real cost — separate release process, separate review cycle, separate failure modes. We took it because being present on the job listing is the difference between a tool people remember and one they forget.
What shipped
- Live at apply-edge.com with a free tier plus paid Pro and Ultimate plans
- Subscription billing, refund handling, and account management in production
- Chrome extension shipped and maintained alongside the web app
